JICA
Yesterday, two volunteers from JICA
came to the school to talk with
the Grade 6 students about their
experiences.
The Japan International Cooperation
Agency sends Japanese volunteers
around the world to help people
in developing countries. They aim to
work with local communities to build
skills and knowledge in both the volunteers
and the communities.
Yesterday's volunteers both spent two
years abroad.
The first speaker went to Morocco.
She is a nurse in Japan. She used her skills
in a hospital to help deliver babies and
teach mothers about health.
The second speaker went to East Timor to build
infrastructure with the local community. For example,
one project was to dig a well for a clean supply of fresh
water.
Both speakers gave the students a good
idea about what it was like to live and work
in other countries.
Look at the students. You can see their
keen interest in learning about other
places and ways of living.
When the presentations were done,
the students were eager to ask questions
about the work, living conditions, and
cultures of the host countries.
Finally, our students expressed their
gratitude to the speakers.
I'd also like to add my thanks and
appreciation to the speakers for coming
to speak with us. They helped open our
eyes to the bigger world, what it's like,
some of the problems, some ways of helping,
and a motivation for us to help too.
Thank you for your time, and for sharing
your hope and vision for improving the
future!
